Voices of the Immigrant Experience @ Dayton Metro Library - Bassani Theater

On Tuesday, June 26, a panel of African immigrants and refugees will share their personal stories in “Voices of the Immigrant Experience.” This program encourages participants’ questions and open dialogue. It is scheduled in conjunction with a book club discussion of the novel Homegoing, by Yaa Gyasi, the 2017 Dayton Literary Peace Prize fiction runner-up, which traces 300 years of history through two families in Ghana. The book discussion begins at 6:30 p.m. and “Voices of the Immigrant Experience” follows at 7:30 pm in the Dayton Metro Library’s Main Library, Bassani Theater (Off Third St).

World Refugee Day Celebration @ Grace United Methodist Church

Please join Welcome Dayton for our annual World Refugee Day Celebration, celebrating the various refugee cultures in the greater Dayton area! We will have performances from Burundian, Sudanese, pan-African youth, Vietnamese, and other groups; we will also have a local immigrant-owned coffee truck, food “tasting stations” with food representing multiple countries, children’s activities, a multicultural fashion show, resource tables, and a DJ! The event will be held on June 30th from 11 a – 3 p at Grace United Methodist Church (1001 Harvard Blvd, Dayton, OH).
