Helping children succeed in school is challenging for today’s parents. These challenges are especially daunting for many parents of DPS students in the district’s English as a Second Language program.
Beginning Feb. 1, 2012, Parent University, sponsored by the Dayton Public Schools, will offer parents of students in the district’s ESL program a series of eight weekly sessions designed to explain how their children’s schools operate, how to help their children succeed academically, and how to become an involved member of their community.
Parent University has grown out of the recent Welcome Dayton initiative that encourages community institutions and business leadership to make Dayton a welcoming place for new residents from other countries who have come to invest in the community, build better lives and, in turn, make Dayton a better place to live.
The sessions will be held at St. Mary’s Center, 310 Allen St., Wednesdays from noon to 1 p.m. as listed below. Refreshments and childcare will be provided.
